NEW SAN JUAN, Grand Duchy of New Puerto Rico -

Earlier this week, Puritania lost its third consecutive province to independence. In the last week of October, following the Communist coup, the provicnes of Arkania and Miditaranya Nuwo left to form an Arkanian state. After initial acceptance, former Lord Protector Austi Scot launched an unsucessfull campaign to reclaim the lost provinces, which failed when no other nation or organization listened to him.

At the same time, the province of New Puerto Rico declared provisional independence, until the coup was put down. However, following the campaign of Julian Starr for Lord Protector, when he threatened to make himself Emperor-for-Life, NPR's Grand Duke declared that there would be no reunification, and that NPR was now an independent Grand Duchy.

Meanwhile, in Puritania, the election for Lord Protector (which attracted one of the lowest outcomes for any Puritanian election) was stymied when the winner, David Beckford, announced that he was leaving Puritania. Along with the loss of Austi Scot and the residents of the three provinces, this leaves Puritania with almost no active participants. With Beckford's absence, Starr has virtually taken over the remainder of the nation.

Meanwhile, sources say that New Puerto Rico will likely merge with the Kingdom of the Union of Madland and its Corresponding Empire shortly, and will become closely allied to the growing Arkanian/Mediterranean sphere.
