On midnight Saturday (March 16th) the citizens of the Empire of New Bruges voted for their government to become a Palatinate of the Barony of Treesia and Fabon. The vote was unanimous, although the turn-out was comparatively low when compared in general to micronational elections.

There are quite a few changes as a result of the creation of the Palatinate. The Barony now takes full responsibility for economic, diplomatic and defense matters, while the Palatinate retains autonomy for all other things. The position of the Emperor is changed to Baron-Emperor, and entitles the holder to a seat on the Treesian Council. Most sigificantly, the original currency of New Bruges, the Guilden, is withdrawn entirely from circulation, and all reserves are transferred to the financial institutions of Treesia. In addition all citizens become citizens of the Barony.

Baron Dornan of Treesia was unavailable for comment, but insiders have suggested that this is the best thing that has ever happened to New Bruges, as the native culture will be preserved, while giving the citizens the opportunity to participate in one of the most original nations of the micronational community.
