After the list of possible services, let us also make a list of possible taxes.

This is the problem: when most of the citizens are employed by the government, then it's very difficult for the government to find enough money for next year's wages. It makes no sense to have an income tax of 95%, does it? What taxes may be raised besides the 'micronation-unfriendly' income tax?

- idle capital tax

- double alias tax

- profit tax (on profits of private sector)

- anonimity tax (a tax paid by people who don't want their emailaddresses to be given to others, for example during elections)

Any other ideas?

Possibly a tax for:

--forum space (example: for businesses)

--small tax for trading stocks (if done through the government instead of a broker)

--webspace (individual sites for citizens)

We're currently thinking about "renting" forums, for businesses.

The renting of forums or webspace is not a tax, but a service, and it should be discussed in the other thread...

Indeed, a tax on stock-exchange could be possible.

Actually, in Belgium, and in other parts of Europe, some left-wing politicians wanted to raise a  Tobin tax . That's a tax on speculation with capital and stocks. Does anyone know more about this? I'll do some research myself too...  :eek

There is a very good explanation on Tobin-tax on the following website, unfortunately it's only in Dutch:

The English-speaking micronationalists might find something here:

www.tobintax.org.uk

The Tobin-tax will be implemented in France in 2003.

And of course the ordinary income tax. Which is of course only useful if not all people are paid by the government

Some of these are on pretty ethically shaky grounds. Like an anonymity tax...isn't privacy not only a fundamental human right but the law in a lot of our micronations? Same with a church tax...not to mention where's the church going to get its money from? Although I wouldn't oppose an income tax on any money the church gets from collections and stuff.

Well, some might be not very practical. But it's good to storm a few brains and collect as many possibilities as possible, make a nice list of them, and scratch all those who doesn't seem suitable afterwards.

First of all, I do not support imposing taxes or levyes on people. Many of them come and contact a micronation especially because they do not want to hear about beaurocracy, taxes, etc.

In my oppinion, a micronation, profitting of this status, may be funded by an "established" nation, with the help of its citizens. How?

Very simple. The "established" nations have "lacks" or options to make more oney from less so, why not to use them. For example banks, stocks, etc. Why not to have a payed personell with the misson to find and use in the name of the Minister of Economy (or other official), this options. The initial citizenship tax or other levyes imposed only once or the proffit from souvenirs may then be used for investments and then the profit made may be used for "backing" the monetary system. Please also reffer to the post "This can be done", where I added a reply with a description of th economic system of Kiseenia.
