Since discussion seems to be turning toward service economies, I'd be interested in hearing what services have been used in everyone's countries. I remember the following working at least for a while:

1. Newspapers

2. Web site designing

3. Web searching

4. Email addresses

5. Financial consulting

6. (3D) Graphic art

7. Consulting (on pretty much anything)

8. Law

9. Mediation

10. Insurance

11. Mercenaries

12. Official writing (like composing treaties and stuff)

13. Computer programs/games

14. Forum space

15. Email addresses, etc.

16. Illegal arms smuggling (thank you, Ari)

17. Casinos

18. DLs (but how would you charge for these?)

19. Posts at bars (but this one must not be done, or Istvanistan would have a negative GNP)

What other ideas/examples do people have?

On the graphics side, you could include regular graphics and 3D graphics, which would go for a higher price (because of the time put in to make)

Also you could offer webspace and free emails (just set up one of those free cgi-scripts that maintain it) for citizens and business.  Charge a monthly fee as well as an initial starting price.  Can add on for more money (space wise)

What was also mentioned in other threads:

-space on the State's forum. (a citizen could start his own discussion-forum or pub on the much-visited forum of the state)

As an "extension" to mercenaries, I think having spam cannons and the like would be a good base for an unethical transnational corporation :) .

Now, as a counterweight to those illegal arms... Forum archivals. Making a script that goes through all the forums of an Ezboard and zips the posts up shouldn't even be too hard.

Yeah, long live JavaScript. JavaScript is cool.

Only, it's extremely difficult to do an archive program in JavaScript. It doesn't let you allow to grab text from a webpage. Very annoying. I encountered one option so far, but that's limited to IE, and includes a lot of work...

I wanted to build a script that checks regulary who is logged in on a forum, but I failed utterly. I built a connect-4 game, though. And a quiz. Hey, any nation around who wants to buy a quiz?

Just as a "heads up" for those of you that don't know, but there are some services in existances already. BGI makes RPG games, scenarios, and mod packs for people. If a service-based economy were to emerge, we'd be happy to join in and offer our already complete products.

I'm sure there are more people out there that already do stuff... so it wouldn't be a matter of creating everything from the ground up, but simply offering a way for massive exchange of these goods among nations.

I am not well versed in the art of Javascripting, so I might be wrong, but ... I think he means this (PERL):

use LWP::Simple; # LWP is libwww-perl, a library for doing... well... WWW stuff in PERL

$document = get ('http://pub114.ezboard.com/fmicronationalnewsnetwork48264frm6.showMessage?topicID=23.topic'); # $document now contains the HTML of this page

Rather simple, isn't it :)  ?
