I'm just curious to see how many Micronationalists are "right-winged," conservative, or have ideologies that lean towards conservative beliefs, either economically, politically, or socially. So who here is a conservative?

This should be in the Norton Lounge.

More seriously, the only people who I know who are absolutely conservative are Delphi and Sirithil. (Sirithil having left.) From what I have seen, outside of micronationalism Ardashir is quite the liberal by American standards (But then again, a European conservative tends to be an American liberal in American terms :p ) Mind you, I'm using the American version of liberal here.

I know that in Shireroth, in general, has centrist-to-liberal tendencies in macronational politics.

Regarding myself, while I am probably left-central in economic politics, I really don't focus on that part of the spectrum. I consider myself a strong technocrat. If you use the one-dimensional spectrum, that's probably more left-centrist if it applies at all, given the fact that more intellectuals tend to be liberal than conservative, and conservatism has luddites in its range. But then again, I repeat that I am a strong technocrat, up to the point where I really don't care that much about morals. :p

In reality, it's quite simple. The majority of micronationalists are teenagers or young adults. That age spectrum tends to be liberal. Thus, it is safe to say that a majority of micronationalists are liberal. Whether this matters depends on the nation. It doesn't matter in Shireroth because it deliberately tries to avoid macronational politics, for example, but it mattered/matters a lot in Antica because it is a political nation. Interally, macronational politics did not matter, but it was because of Sirithil's neoconservatism that there was a Baracao-Menelmacar cold war, after all.

When Bill says I am liberal by American standards I think that is down to me being an atheist, or at the very least an agnostic, which gives me a bit more flexibility than the GoP across the pond.

On the other hand in the European spectrum I am very much at the right being anti-abortion (for non-religious reasons!), pro-death penalty, and pro-war (if for Britain all wars were like the Iraq War, 100 dead over three years we'd do it all the time... provided we were actually allowed to make a dámn profit from the defeated party).

Ardashir, why are you anti-abortion? I'm having trouble squaring my conception of you with someone who is actually opposed to killing babies.

Anti-abortion and pro-death penalty... double standards, double standards.

You see, I'm pro-killing. Pro-abortion and pro-death penalty. We've got 6 and 1/2 billion freaking people. We need to start indiscriminantly detonating nukes somewhere!

Don't worry Scott, this isn't a question of ethics and thus does not represent a contradiction in my development model which sees the workforce reinforced by the children born from unwanted pregnancies and the criminal elements removed from society when all efforts to mould them into productive and responsible citizens (or drones if you prefer) have failed.

The reason I asked this question in the first place is because I feel I am somewhat conservative and wanted to see who else thinks like me. I'm an economic liberal, in that I support socialized programs (healtcare for example), but I'm a social conservative, being against gay marriage, divorce, many many substances, and all. However, my views on abortion are situational and I'm against the death penelty. But I'm pro-war. War drives progression. European society, which has given up war is a very stagnant society. The society in Europe is going to collapse on itself in a hundred years. Already their fertility/birth rates are so low that they are facing a demographic catastrophy and soon they will be outnumbered by people from the Middle East in their own land. Also, liberal Western society tends to be very cynical and leads to a host of mental problems such as depression and agnst. Yes I am somewhat of a traditionalist, although I believe in sexual and racial equality. In addition, progress rests on the stability of society, and as the family is society's fundemental block, the stability of the family. No divorce, no gay marriage. Adultery should be a crime. Not to say that the societies in the Middle East are perfect because they're too non secular. There has to be a fine balance between progress and tradition. The only society that balances modernity with tradition well is Japan (although they also have fertility problems). And of course, the march is Science is something I've very liberal about. Almost everything in the name of science should be permitted, provided it doesn't kill or harm anyone. We need to spend more money on science. NASA is @#%$ for example because nobody pumps enough money into it. I greatly admire China's current system which is a very interesting mixture of capitalist and socialist policies. Democracy is not necesarrily a good thing either. Humans tend to like and accept dictatorial systems throughout history. All democracies eventually collapse. The Roman Republic and the American democracy are comparable now. Rome became a thriving empire under Augustus. American needs its Augustus soon.

I greatly admire China's current system too. What better system is there than theirs that can suppress people so effectively that the little spurts of rebellous calls for freedom don't cause any changes whatsoever, no matter their size.
