Yes, some idiot is making a thread about this game
again
! (I figured it was better than resurrecting the old one, which may be in the archives)
I installed it again, so if anyone else is experienced with the game, perhaps incorporating it into some RecWars where applicable might be a bit of fun. As Mr Gray pointed out (probably) last time, the best idea would be for only certain operations to be played out using this game, not entire battles. Playing it recently, it strikes me extremely hard that we don't use it already - it's quite cheap as its nice and old, the only limitation would be lack of computer specs (that includes slow internet I guess) and literally having no money. The Squad/Commander system is excellent, but not used enough in the actual game.
Since I'm only expecting about 4 of the people on here to own the game (at most), bots might be necessary. I'll root around for some mods that could help the cause in that respect (ie Co-Op mods that allow bots and multiple players to play in the same game).

No, I did say it is quite cheap, which implies it costs money. But good question anyhow.
America's Army is free but there are problems with it (aside from it being a propaganda machine with guns pasted on), I think that BF2 would be a better choice for RecWarring.

Bleh.
My objective using BF2 would not be to create a full battle (it could but it would be kinda unrealistic for the purposes of a RecWar which tries to be as realistic as possible). It's to use it for specific missions like blowing up a special objective or an attack on an Armour Column by infantry, for example.

If modded it could be quite effective, but an RTS along the lines of
Total War
would also be useful. America's Army is shÃÂte.

if we use C+C i would recommend the generals series rather than the tiberium or red alert series

The main problem with the
Total War
series is simply that the timeframe for all three (four if you include Medevil II) is way off course for most micronations and their tech levels. Although speaking of mods, there's probably a R:TW mod for Modern-day weapons and such... I'll sniff around.
I've discovered that there is a Co-Op function in Battlefield 2 in which bots play alongside a few humans. Problem is it only allows for 16-player maps (there are 32- and 64-player maps for those of you that don't have the game, which are substantially larger), which would be a big problem.

Completely true. You could rack up about 100 kills with a sniper if you try in one game!
But there's no getting around that. The bots will
always
be stupid. Of course, we could simply do really, really, really small operations - maximum about 10 guys (most of which wouldn't be micronationalists) with one objective - for example, destroy the enemy's artillery - which would affect the RecWar somehow.

Or we all just jump into a 32-64 player server that doesn't have many players. That there'll be around 10 more people will serve to attract others.

My problem with that is the tactics based around it. Your suggestion would mean the operation becomes larger, and in such a case I'm sure we'd all prefer the Commander function to be of any use. Maybe if the server was a "Join a Squad or Get Kicked!" server it'd work. The problem is, the majority of the people have a high chance of doing whatever the hell they want while a few micronationalists frantically try to establish some sort of order to achieve objectives.
A general question to people reading this thread: What rank are you in Battlefield 2? If we
do
use a public server or whatever, then High Ranks = higher chance of becoming Commander, which would be nice. I myself am... Corporal I think. I have an excuse for the low rank despite owning the game since the week after it came out but I'm sure none of you will judge.

Don't worry, I'm a Corporal as well. Might be an idea to get a clan involved to fill spaces, and perhaps lend us their server. It might also get some new blood into the hobby.
