I changed my mind about the EU

« Reply #15 on: September 02, 2007, 08:15 AM »

I maintain that this is still jumping the gun.  We need to look at first principles, and the main question here is: how do we stimulate demand?

That in turn divides it into:

What is commonly exchanged in a micronational environment?
What do micronationalists want?

Further questions can also follow, but taxation here is a red herring.  The aim of any micronational market economy should be to minimise state intervention as far as possible to simply taxing as much as it needs to provide its services, rather than simply clawing back money to prevent inflation.

Well, we are getting money to provide services ...

And if you can answer what do micronationalists want in a new and exciting way, you're an economic genius ...

I do know the answer to the first one though.  It's time, isn't it?

There's more than one answer.

No, you're just being defeatist.  Take a look at what's exchanged, and what people often look for in micronational environments.  It's not a question of being an economic genius, it's a question of the basic rule of business: find something people want.

Fine.  In my experience, what people buy most is property (at least initially) and exciting magical items.  However, since Novatainia and Tokidoki are the only major nations involved in magic, the second one doesn't help the international community too much.

Ok.  That's a start.  But let's also look for demand that could be satisfied by a market mechanism that isn't at present.

News magazines are big business, at least in our Sector.

Avatars, titles, signatures, companies that make money (like Jamzinia's excellent efforts with the football scenario)

Don't forget to consider what's taken for granted.
