No, but with the help of KFOR, the serbians can't do anything to them and BTW, that was noth their reason to become independent
KFOR is only there until a solution to the conflict can be reached, and given the behaviour of Serbia, Kosovar secession was the only reasonable option available.
There hasn't been one incident since 1999. The Serbs haven't done nothing to them since then

Only because of the continued presence of KFOR, which is not an adequate long-term solution.

And how would their independence change that?

A few thousand Serbs rioted at the border following the announcement and were only kept back by...erm... KFOR.

Huzzah!
I wish Scotland would take that attitude XD (joke)
Good luck. Our plan is to buy land before secession, money is the problem. I was thinking having Tesco sponsor us.
Yes, that would give you good publicity been sponsored by someone like Tesco or Virgin maybe.
I would love to find the perfect bit of land for Bobalania and claim independence but it would be easier to Buy a private island, preferably near me, but there isn't any.

By giving them the mandate to assemble security forces independent of the Serbian state.

Kosovo are more worthy of secession, because, well, they're a people, not a person...

Kosovo is 'independent' because the western countries don't want a strong Serbia.
A lot countries don't recognise this 'state' and other countries didn't thought about it.
Why would Kosovo gain the approval for independence if there are a lot of people in Africa who wants an independent state? Because those African nations are divided and aren't strong enough to complain against the USA.
