The Campaign's manifesto is below, and outlines the policies I will be following if elected in October.

Quote
CAMPAIGN FOR GSO REFORM

Campaigning for a wholesale reform of the GSO.

It is obvious that the organisational structure of the GSO is decaying, old and rusty. Two years on from the creation of an organisation which seemed able of anything, we are left with a bureaucratic monolith incapable of resolving its own problems.
The Campaign for GSO Reform is a collective with the broad aims of re-organising, re-vitalising and re-building the GSO with benefit to all members of the Organisation.

The policies the Campaign will be advocating if our Candidate for the by-election is elected are as follows:
  • 1.   RESOLUTION OF THE PROTECTORATES ISSUE
An issue which the Board has been apathetic in following up after discrepancies were noted and asked to be rectified by an Auditor after last year’s elections, the Campaign aims to resolve the Protectorates Issue immediately as per the General Assembly’s Proposal D. This will prevent any one Delegate (or group of papels) holding a veto over Board elections, and will ensure a fairer and more productive common simulation.
  • 2.   STRENGTHENING OF THE AUDITOR’S POWERS
As the Auditors act as the judiciary of the GSO, the Campaign feels it right that they have powers to pass their own resolutions and rules for the GSO (with the support of the General Assembly). To this end, the Campaign advocates a strengthening of the Auditor’s powers and a more effective formalisation of their role in the running of the Organisation.
  • 3.   FASTER UPDATES
The Campaign feels the efforts to update the map of the GSO more regularly and at one single location should be applauded – if elected our Candidate shall be investigating the possibility of doing the same with the topographical map.
  • 4.   CHAIRMANSHIP OF THE GA
As the Board’s electorate, the General Assembly should make the Board more accountable. This will bring the organisation of the GSO closer to its electorate and therefore make it more accountable. To keep the Board and the General Assembly in close contact, the Campaign proposes the creation of the role of “Chairman of the General Assembly” to be allocated through an election by General Assembly members. The Chairman may not be a member of the Board, and will also moderate proposals and discussions in the General Assembly sub-forum.
  • 5.   ENDORSEMENT OF MAY POST-ELECTION REFORMS
After the election of the current Board of Directors, the Returning Officer and other micronationalists proposed a plan for reform of the election process, which included many worthy ideas which the Campaign feels it is right to implement. If elected, we shall be working to implement those reforms as soon as possible.

I wonder if the intermicronational hypocrite who denies behind a total slave and with 206,765,413 EXP in micronationalism is going to make a campaign here to get voted.

No, I'm here to make it an election instead of a vote of confidence. Why would I put forward a campaign manifesto at all? Tomsett here's the candidate to win and all he's said is what other people have been saying for months. What am I meant to say?

I'll make it clear that I hate the GSO and aim to destroy it, but I am not looking to discourage members voting for me. If you want to, go ahead, I'd vote for me, but I think the people's choice is going to be Will. That's the GSO's problem, there are more people who want it to live than people who are willing to summarily state they want it gone. Once you guys get over that you may make some progress.

Nice to see you now deem it necessary to update GSO maps more than once an aeon...

Seriously, good luck, though Wink

What a stupidly strange comment you made there. You're basing your campaign on the eradication of the GSO?

"Why make it better, when you can destroy it?"

That's not what I meant (and I have no campaign, and certainly not one based on the destruction of the GSO, that's just my personal opinion) - I meant the GSO is not on the defensive. The MCS is constantly improving because there are these scrutinising characters who are always attacking every aspect of the administration. Ben sort of does that, but (though what a man!) he is only one man.

And that's what this Campaign is trying to achieve. A stronger body which makes the Directors more accountable.

Ugh. That post made me wince. I mean, your earlier one was pretty bad, but I hoped that was your argumentative gene causing a knee jerk post reaction. That last once was distastefully propagandist. For the sake of the readers of this thread could you tone it down a little bit?

If I may,

I'd like to say that I support Benkern on this issue. I think the GSO has failed at what it was established to achieve. To be fair, it has more to do with the change in the hobby from political simulation to fantasy 'goblins' etc.. As such, a lot of countries left the GSO for the MCS (or were banned). Further, alright, alright, the GSO map is better. But its boring. Why? There are less than 20 nations on the thing and there is no real political activity here anyway. The last international event we had was the half-arsed red menace. Which wasn't really a menace since everyone was so obnoxiously light-hearted about it.

Look, this community is shrinking. The realist side of the house is shrinking even more so. We may not like the fantasists, but we have to learn to live with them if we want this community to last another 5 years. There just aren't enough people to support two maps.
