Subject: The Microversity
-----------------------------------------------------------

Date: Tuesday, 7 October 2008

Internet - The Microversity is a new location built for education using the latest in computer technology, to enable students to learn anywhere where acess to the internet is possible. E-learning as used by the Microversity is suited to distance learning and flexible learning.

The aim of the Microversity is to produce a "Virtual Classroom". A virtual classroom is a learning environment created in the virtual space. Students in virtual education typically acquire knowledge in a uni-directional manner first (e.g. by studying a video, reading a textbook chapter). Subsequent discussions of problems, solving exercises, case studies, review questions, etc. help the students to understand better what they learned before. Electronic media like a discussion forum, chat room, voice mail, e-mail, etc. will then be employed by the Microversity for communication.

Homework assignments may be required to be submitted by the elected course(s) that students are doing. These would be submitted electronically, e.g. as an attachment to an e-mail. When help is needed, lecturers, tutors, or fellow students are available, just like in a real university.

The Microversity will be opening it's doors on 1st December, 2008. The first courses that it will offer include:

  • Business Studies
  • Computer Studies
    • Advanced MyBanco Administration
    • Basic MyBanco Administration
    • IBM AIX Administration
    • Linux Administration
    • Windows Administration
